Joyce Surrett

Joyce Robert Surrett, age 74, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Sherman and Helen Greene Surrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Fisher; and a brother, Thomas Surrett. He was a deacon and a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Joyce enjoyed woodworking, his family, friends, and church family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Crisp Surrett; three daughters, Sheila Zachary and her husband, Ben, of Brevard, LaDonna Whitt and her husband, Philip, of Canton, and Theresa Blynt and her husband, David, of Fletcher; one brother, Sherman Surrett of Canton; mother-in-law, Mafra Crisp of Candler; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to thank his church family for their continued love and support, the VA medical staff, and hospice staff for their care and compassion.
