Judy Mashburn Messer

Judy Mashburn Messer, 74, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born on November 25, 1948, in Swain County.

Judy was a lady of great faith and compassion. She dedicated her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Judy's commitment to her loved ones extended beyond her immediate family; she was known for her kindness and generosity towards all who knew her.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Judy worked diligently at Whitley Drugs in Hendersonville for 15 years. Her dedication and strong work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the team. Judy's positive attitude and friendly nature brightened the lives of both colleagues and customers alike.

She was a proud graduate of Pisgah High School, class of 1967. Her time at Bethel and  Pisgah High School allowed her to form lifelong friendships and create memories that she cherished throughout her life. 

To honor Judy's memory, a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Reverend Scott Poole, Reverend Anthony Messer, Reverend Guy Smith, Reverend Matt Metzger, and Dr. J.D. Grant officiating.  Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Craig Messer, Nick Messer, Adam Messer, Ross McCall, Sam McCall, and Brennan Deane.

Judy leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories within the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Allie Tabor Mashburn, and two sisters, Grace Hall and Donnie Trantham.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Richard Messer. Their bond was an inspiration to many, and their love for each other and the Lord, served as a foundation for their family. Judy's children held a special place in her heart.  Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Scotty Messer (Pam) of Cruso, Tammy Messer McCall (Tim) of Penrose, and Reverend Anthony Messer (Anna) of Bethel; five sisters: Leona Burnette of Bethel, Doris Pressley of Bethel, DeAnne Noland of Mt. Airy, GA, Darlene Long of Cruso, and Kathy Clark of Bethel. Her brother J.L. Mashburn of Burlington.

Judy was not only a mother but also a grandmother to eight grandchildren: Craig Messer, Nick Messer, Jasmann Messer Deane, Allie Messer, Adam Messer, Brieanna McCall, Ross McCall, and Sam McCall. Her love for them knew no bounds.  Judy's legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Lydia Hipps, Sarah Hipps, Caleb Hipps, Chesney Messer, and Presley Messer. They will carry forward the values she instilled in them as they grow and flourish.
