Judy Young

Maggie Valley, Judith "Judy" Ann Dickerson Young, age 65, of Columbine Lane, died on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her residence. A native of Tuscumbia, Missouri, she had resided in Atlanta before moving to Haywood County in 1999. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Snelling Dickerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Lawson. Judy received her BS from Peabody College in Nashville, TN and her MED and EDS from Georgia State University. She was an educator for the Dekalb County School System for 30 years and was the 2000 Teacher of the Year at Columbia High School in Atlanta. She was a member of Maggie Valley First Baptist Church where she was involved in many church activities including the choir, was Senior Activities Coordinator, volunteered in the church library, and was an extension of Meals-On-Wheels. She was also co-chair for the Billy Graham telethon. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Edward Young; one daughter, Lisa Sanborn and her husband, Chris; two stepdaughters, Reneé Dalton and her husband, Mick, and Angie Buck and her husband, Kerry; two stepsons, Bryan and Adam Young; one sister, Brenda Clark and her husband, Norwood; 7 grandchildren; three nephews; and one niece. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley with Reverend Ricky Mason and Reverend Paul Carmichael officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Sanborn, John Clark, Heath Townson, Ken Jinright, Allen Cagle, and Kerry Buck. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
