Waynesville, Julia Adeline O'Dell McNeer, age 91, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Julia was born in West Virginia, a native of Kanawha County, and she also resided in Charleston before retiring to Palm Harbor, Florida, where she lived for 20 years prior to moving to Haywood County in 2000. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Mariah Welcher O'Dell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. McNeer, who passed away in 1989; and two sisters, Genevieve O'Dell and Mary Elizabeth Wilson. She was secretary for Governor Jay Rockefeller and the Dupont Corporation. Julia often served as a greeter/hostess at the Governor's Mansion in Charleston, West Virginia. She was a member of Christ Methodist Church in Charleston, West Virginia, and served on the Highland Lakes Retirement Board in Palm Harbor, Florida. Julia loved to play golf, was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed walking and dancing. She was a "modern woman" who was young at heart and was very devoted to her family. She is survived by two daughters, Cindi Redcay and her husband, Chris, of Burlington, NC, and Susan Kingshill and her husband, Bruce, of Waynesville; two sisters, Betty Potterfield and her husband, Harry, of Leesburg, Virginia, and Emogene Craigo of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; one brother, Robert O'Dell and his wife, Joyce, of Charleston, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Regan Wyatt and her husband, Brandon, of Waynesville; Cameron Kingshill of Charlotte; Collin Thompson of Asheville; and Chandler Thompson of Waynesville; three great granddaughters: Addison Bailey, Samantha Grey, and Mary Kingsley Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Collin and Chandler Thompson, Doug Craigo, Bruce Kingshill, Chris Redcay, and Brandon Wyatt. Following the services, a celebration of Julia's life will follow at the home of Susan and Bruce Kingshill. All family and friends are invited.
