Julia Burchfield Sorrells, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Eliza Burchfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sorrells; an infant daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Sorrells and daughter, Mary Ruth Worley; brothers, Divard, Howard, Harry, Lawrence "Toad" and Wade Burchfield; sisters, Etta Warren, Hermie Allen, Annie Dee Ray, Edith Dills, Emma Sorrells, and Kathryn Pressley. She was the oldest living member of East Canton Baptist Church. Her family and friends held a special place in her heart. Her greatest joy was her great-great-grandchildren. She loved telling everyone who visited about her experiences of growing up in Haywood County. She is survived by her daughters, Frances Bonham and Anna Lee Sorrells of Canton, and Betty Perry and her husband, Don, of Waynesville; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren and a special friend, Dianne Ball. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Sorrells, the Reverend Wayne Sorrells, and the Reverend Danny Long officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
