Julian McElhinney Buchanan, Sr., age 77, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his residence. A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Roy Glenn and Reilly Vanarah Tatham Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Jack and Hurbert Tyler Buchanan. Julian attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen Connor Buchanan; seven children, Julian McElhinney Buchanan, Jr. and his wife Birgitt, Deborah Manilla Underwood and her husband, Fred, Tammy Jane Buchanan and her wannabe, Steve Farmer, Daniel Dwight Buchanan and his wife, Debbie, Julia Ellen Frizzell and her husband, Tommy, Inger Darlene Buchanan, and Manuel Verlin Buchanan and his wife, Keturah; one sister, Louise Marie Stephens; two brothers, Roy Glenn and Wilburn Cornelious Buchanan; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby and Mr. Donald Edwin Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Canton.
