Waynesville, Julius Bernard Messer, age 81, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at his residence.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late George and Tlitha Parton Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Beulah Messer, Dovie Finney, Georgia Phillips and Deliah Hollingworth; and a brother, Charlie Messer. Julius attended Victory Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and gardening.
Julius is survived by his son, Julius Messer, Jr., and fiancee, Tracy Nelson; two sisters, Evelyn Smith and Polly Ward; one granddaughter, Megan Clark; and a great-granddaughter, Aurora Pless.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Millard Grant and Reverend Mike Stamey officiating. Burial will follow at Messer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Burl Sutton, Lonnie Sutton, Burton Smith, Luke Smith, Levi Smith and Terry Woody. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Carpenter, Terry Bradshaw, Roy Bradshaw, Bobby Winchester and David Ward.
The care of Mr. Messer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
