Waynesville, Howard Junior Conard, Sr., age 76, of the White Oak Community, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Brian Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Arbie Jenkins Conard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Taft Conard and two brothers, Joe and Jack Conard. He was a self-employed farmer and devoted to his work. He also was a logger and loved gardening, fishing, and hunting. Junior especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and also with his friends, sharing with them conversations and stories. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ina Jenkins Conard; a son, Howard Conard and his girlfriend, Sharon Conard, of Canton; seven daughters, Barbara Fie of Maggie Valley, Mildred Henson and husband, Glen Daryll, of Florence, Alabama, Linda Deaver and husband, Danny, of Canton, Rosetta Conard of Waynesville, Loretta Deaver and husband, Everett, of the Bethel Community, Dorothy Hall and husband, Roger, of Cleveland, Tennessee, and June West and husband, Doug, of Waynesville; one sister, Evelyn Conard; two brothers, Jess and Ray Conard; 14 grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Josh and Gordon Campbell, Jessica Conard, Mary Campbell, Amanda Inman, Reba and Jenny West, Patricia and Crystal Deaver, Tylee Stepp, Courtney Hancock, Claudia Thompson, and Samantha Denton; and a special friend, Harley Franklin; and 18 great grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh and Gordon Campbell, Scott Conard, Joey Sutton, Gabe Goss, Harley Franklin, Alan Green, and Chris Henson. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
