"A Gentle Man"

Canton - Robert Woody "Junior" Smathers, 56, of the Dutch Cove community, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Woody and Barbara Smathers. He was a 1979 graduate of Pisgah High School and a lifelong member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church & a devoted Christian.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lynn Smathers, of Asheboro; one daughter, Sarah Smathers of Canton; one son, Matthew Smathers of Canton; and five grandchildren, Kelsey, Javen, Isaiah, Mason and Olyvia.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jason Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
