"1943 – 2017" Canton – Karen Watson Rhinehart, 73, left this world to her heavenly home on April 30, 2017 after a valiant battle with a prolonged illness. Her devotion to her church and her firm belief in God supported her through the struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Karen was born on August 8, 1943 and a lifelong resident of Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late George and Annie Mae Watson of the Morning Star community in Canton. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Max (Tony) Rhinehart Karen was a talented baker, cook, gardener, and florist and was noted for her sought after desserts prepared on special occasions for her church and family. She was a dedicated member of Crestview Baptist Church and utilized her many talents in support of the church Senior Adult Ministry and fund raisers serving on the bereavement, social, and homecoming committees. Whether she was tending the garden, orchard, vineyard, or spending countless hours in her greenhouses, she was a daily fixture for those traveling up and down "the cove". No matter the time of day, Karen could routinely be seen somewhere in her beloved garden area, gathering what God provided that week and delighted in sharing the bounty with family and friends. She enjoyed clogging and was a member of the Green Valley clogging team. She looked forward to Thursday night at "the ranch", and clogging for the residents of numerous nursing home and venues. She is survived by four sons, David Mills and wife, Sue, Darryl Mills and wife, Autumn, Dewayne Mills and wife, Marvetta, and Kelly Mills and wife, Christy; two sisters, Peggy Burnette and husband, J.C. and Kathy Cagle; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Crestview Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Page officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be members of Karen's immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crestview Baptist Church Master Building Fund, 3258 Pisgah Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
