Kate Henderson

Canton- Kate Henderson - age 88 of Newfound Street died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at her residence. She was born Dec. 13, 1916 in Haywood County to the late Clifton Lafayette and Clora Reno Henderson. She was the granddaughter of Haywood County pioneers, the late political and civic leader, William H. Drayton Henderson and his wife Mary. Miss Henderson began her business career at the Canton Chamber of Commerce in 1936. She was the owner of Kay's Beauty Salon in Canton and later worked in the shipping office at Champion International Papers, retiring in 1983 with 45 years of service. She was a member of Canton Presbyterian Church and a supportive friend of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She loved children and animals, giving generously to their cause. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nell H. Moore and Ruth H. Sheppard, her brothers, Burl Henderson and his daughters, Kay Becky and Judy, and Ned Henderson and his son, Clifton, and a special friend Lyndon Bryson. She is survived by her sister, Betty Jo H. Litaker of Statesville, her niece and caregivers, Martha Gean M. Moss and James of Canton, nieces, Carla L. Hurst and Leo of Statesville, Peggy H. Jenkins and Johnny of Canton and Beth Henderson of Tennessee, nephews, Everett Sonny Moore and Patsy of Waynesville and Joel Henderson of Canton, a sister-in-law Etta M. Henderson of Canton; and her physician and caring friend, Dr. Brian Caffrey of Clyde. She also leaves behind her devoted poodle, Wiggles III. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson-Moss plot at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Cliff Henderson, Mitch Robinson, Everett Sonny Moore, David Moss and David and Matt Ford.
