Candler-Katherine P. Raby-of 7B Heather Way, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at her residence. She was a native of Haywood County and had lived the majority of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late George Oliver and Addie Brown Plemmons. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gwendolyn Plemmons and Carolyn P. Phillips. She was employed by Champion International as a secretary to the division manager for a number of years until her retirement. Mrs. Raby was a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church in Asheville and was very active in the United Methodist Women of the church serving as treasurer for over 25 years. She was the former president of Woodside Hills Garden Club and loved knitting and needlepoint. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J. Paul Raby and a special friend, Kathy Morton of China Grove, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Abernethy United Methodist Church in Asheville with Dr. Henry "Rusty" Inman and Reverend Dr. John H. Christy. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Homes in Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of J. Paul Raby, 7B Heather Way, Candler, N.C. 28715. Serving as pallbearers will be Walter Christian, Richard, Erwin, Porter Harris, Neil Culbertson, Elwood Hall, Jerry Plemmons, Bill Nail, R. B. Moore and Mike Walker. Memorials may be made to Abernethy United Methodist Church , Women of Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
