Katherine Whitted

Katherine Snelson Whitted, age 95, died on Monday, January, 16, 2012 at MedWest Haywood Hospital. She was a native of Buncombe County but resided most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late James Dallas and Della Cain Snelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Clay Dunavant, who died in 1945; her second husband, John Harold Whitted, Sr., who died in 1995; three brothers, Carl, Alvin, and Wiley Snelson; and a granddaughter, Kathy Wourms. Katherine was a 1935 graduate of Canton High School and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was an administrative secretary for Champion Paper and Fiber Company and served as a receptionist and secretary for the Robertson Memorial YMCA in Canton for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Clark and her husband, Reverend Keith Clark, and Jane Farmer all of Canton; a son, John "Whitlo" Whitted and his friend, Estelena, of Canton; a sister-in-law, Faye Snelson; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Keith Clark and the Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-a-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
