Kathleen Smathers

Waynesville-Kathleen "Kathy" Kay Smathers, age 45, of 106 Kentucky Avenue, died on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the home of her parents. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of Carroll L. and Bernice Lovell Smathers. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Grasty, and a brother, Jeffrey Smathers. She was a 1978 graduate of Tuscola High School and was employed at Haywood Vocational Opportunities as an administrative assistant for the past six years. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Circle and enjoyed camping and snow skiing. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Kaelyn Singleton, of Waynesville; a sister, Belinda Lowe, and husband, Ed, of Canton; and two brothers, Carroll Smathers, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, of Nashville, TN and Ed Smathers of Waynesville; one brother-in-law, Fred Grasty; three nieces, Johnna, Savanna, and Beth; and five nephews, Cody, Corey, Collin, Conner, Shaun and his son, Vaun. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Dennis McGowan officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Hammontree, Ed Lowe, and Rob, Nick, Adam, and Brian Keith Smathers.
