Kathryn Howard

Canton-Kathryn S. Howard, age 76, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Clay County, GA and had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Loren and Mamie Griffin Stamey and was also preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Pressley and one brother, Melvin Stamey. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and attended Long's United Methodist Church. She was a cashier for Smathers Market for 32 years and with her husband, she was co-owner of Hobo Junction. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Junior Howard, two brothers Glenn Stamey of Candler, Gene Stamey of Canton, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004 at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. Reverend Matt Pruett and Reverend Brad Holliman will officiate. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at 1324 Murray Road, Canton, NC 28716. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Blaylock, Mike Evans, Michael Evans, Shannon Blaylock, Josh Cook, Robert Gaddis and Shawn Gaddis. Flowers would be appreciated or memorials may be made to Long's Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, C/O Charlie Evans, 587 Evans Road, Canton, NC 28716.
