Kathryn Sandlin Morris, age 94, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Hermitage Assisted Living. A native of Swain County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Kate Hyams Sandlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ned Morris; five brothers, Armand, George, Harold, Bob and Kenneth; two sisters, Mildred Plott and Maggie Alice Crisp; and an infant son, William Michael, who is interred in "Babyland" in Pasadena, Texas. Kathryn was educated in Bryson City Schools and W.C. U. where she received a B.S. degree in English and a master's degree in education with a concentration in English. She retired after thirty-two years of teaching in Swain County, Jackson County, Sylva High School, Haywood County, Buncombe County, Asheville High, and A.B. Tech. Kathryn was a member of daughters of the colonist, the DAR, UDC, teachers and state employees and was also a member of the Canton Presbyterian Church. She is survived by several nieces, Judith Cruse, Kitty Kyle, Cheryl Culifer, and Sandy Cathcart , all of Texas, Jean Douthit, Betty Sandlin, Beverly Dehart, Karen Jacobs, and Celeste Wiggins, of North Carolina; and several nephews, Tom Sandlin, Tom Plott, John Sandlin, and Bill Sandlin, of North Carolina, and Dwight Sandlin of Florida. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Riley Covin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at Well Funeral Home and Cremations Services of Canton.
