Katie Caldwell

Waynesville, Katie Belle Franklin Caldwell, age 74, of 432 Utah Mountain Road, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth McCracken Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Caldwell, who died in 1964; two sisters, Margie Walker and Edna Pressley; and three brothers, Bill, Buster, and Walter Franklin, Jr. Katie retired in 1988 from the First Union Bank with 20-years service. She was a loving wife and mother and was blessed with many wonderful friends and family; her grandsons were her special joy. Katie was a member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Thurman Caldwell; a son, Charles Caldwell and his wife, Teresa, of Waynesville; two sisters, twin sister Hettie Casey and Janie Januszewski, both of Waynesville; one brother, Tom Franklin, also of Waynesville; and two grandsons, Will and Jesse Caldwell. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Francis Cove United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles Sojack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Special thanks to Denise Hannah, Ginny Ershock, and the Hospice staff for their loving care.
