Katie Laney

Canton-Katie Lou Pope Laney, age 76 of 326 Abbott Road, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at her residence.

She was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of the late William Casty and Lillabelle Williams Pope and was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Laney who died in 1976. She was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Voliva and Dean Williams and her husband David, all of Canton, two sons, Larry N. Laney and his wife Judy of Gainesville, GA and Don Laney and his wife Gloria of Charlotte, NC, one sister, Dean Spruill of Canton, one foster sister, Lois Conard of Pasadena, TX, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:45 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers and the grandsons are; Brad Laney, Waylon Locklear and Tim Stevens and the nephews are Ricky Rhinehart, Bud Conard and Terry Spruill.
