Katy Underwood

Waynesville, Katy Lee Underwood, age 88, of Allens Creek Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Autumn Care. A native of Jackson County, she had lived in Haywood County for the past 70 years. She was the daughter of the late George and Nannie Phillips Coward. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Underwood, who died in 1992, as well as three sisters and three brothers. Katy was an employee of Dayco for 37 years. She loved her grandchildren and all animals, being outdoors and sitting on her porch. She especially enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her entire family. She is survived by a son, Mike Underwood and his wife, Teresa, of Clyde; two daughters, Betty Sheehan and husband, Richard, of Nebo and Frances Hoxit and husband, Johnny, of Sylva; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
