Kaye Wiggins Leath, 67, of Charleston, South Carolina died at her home on April 22, 2017. She was born in Waynesville, N.C. on September 27, 1949, the daughter of Reba and Ira Wiggins of Enka and Cruso, NC; the granddaughter of Rev. Oder and Ethel Burnett of Canton, N.C. and William and Maggie Wiggins of Bryson City and Cruso, N.C. She is survived by her son, Travis Jones; granddaughters, Megan Jones and Crystal Jones Wright; and great-grandson, Conner Wright. She is also survived by her sisters, Myra Grant and Teri Ownbey; niece Tracy Proctor. Kaye graduated from Enka High School and always had a keen interest in art, theatre and writing. She also attended Trident Technical College in Charleston. She lived in Virginia, Texas, and Georgia but spent almost half her life in the Charleston, S.C. area. Kaye most recently studied medical coding and had a career in the building and electrical industries. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Shag and Dinky, who were always at her side. For many years of her life she was a close companion and caregiver for her close friends, Pam Weiner and Carolyn Curtis. Kaye was always a people person, out-going and gregarious, an avid reader, a lover of music, especially old-time gospels and bluegrass. In her community in Charleston, S.C. she made good friends and the family is especially grateful to those "new-found" friends, Bob Peebles, Vickie Howard and others in the Otranto Acres area; lifelong friend, Jimmy Rogers; the staff of the Charleston County Medical Examiner's Office and the many other friends and family who have reached out during this sad time. In the past several years, Kaye faced several physical and health challenges but always kept trying to move forward and overcome them. A memorial service will be on June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will occur at a later time. Kaye's service will also remember her pet companions, Shag and Dinky, who she deeply loved. Memorials may be made to the Brother Wolf Animal Organization, P.O. Box 8195, Asheville, N.C., 28814.
