Kayte Hamlett

Kayte Newman Hamlett, age 89, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Harris Newman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver M. Hamlett, who died in 1988. Kayte retired from Champion International with 57+ years and was a member of the Champion Old Times. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton and the VFW Auxiliary Post 5202. She is survived by a sister, Hilda Boone of Clyde; two special caregivers, James D. Rhodes of Canton and Gertrude Best of Clyde, and many other special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Patricia G. Chaput officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
