Waynesville, Kendrick C. "Ken" Caldwell, age 88, of Playground Street, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at his residence. A native of Swain County, and was raised in Cataloochee. He was the son of the late Jarvis and Bonnie K. Childers Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herschel H. Caldwell and a sister-in-law, Betty Berry Caldwell. He was a claims adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance Company and retired with over 30 years of service. Kendrick was a US Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Allen's Creek Baptist Church and was a former Deacon. Kendrick was an avid golfer and a member of Lake Junaluska Golf Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Collins Caldwell, one sister, Anne C. Ross, and her husband, Roy Jr., of Waynesville and five brothers, Raymond K. Caldwell, and his wife, Jackie, Jonathan C. Caldwell, J.R. Caldwell, and his wife, Helen, Harley D. Caldwell, and his wife, Pat all of Waynesville and Joe B. Caldwell, and his wife, Doyle, of Fletcher, NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be David, Kevin, Dale, Jeff, Michael, and Terry Caldwell and Dean Ross. Memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church, 549 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
