Kenneth Gerard Brodie, age 95, of Waynesville, NC, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024.
Ken was born on December 24, 1928, in Framingham, Massachusetts. He was the fourth child of Exilona and Francis R. Brodie. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth A. Napolitano (Carmine); two brother, Francis R. Brodie, Jr. (Lillian), Richard S. Brodie (Cecilia); his wife, Mary Lou Brodie; step-son Stephen Mooney, son-in-law Donald Burns and his ever loving dog companion Jack.
Ken is survived by his three devoted children Mary B. Burns (Manassas, VA), Patricia A. (Patty) Bailey (Richmond, VA) and Kenneth R. Brodie, DVM (Hendersonville, NC); a step-daughter in law Jeanelle Mooney (Ponte Vedra, FL) and step-son Collin Holcombe. Seven grandchildren, Ryan (Lisa) Burns, Cameron Bailey, Brandon Bailey, Steven Brodie, Mark Brodie, Heather (Tom) Stirratt, and Heath Mooney. Seven great grandchildren Hogan, Grace and Ryan Stirratt, Ian and Nya Mooney, Tippett and Amber Holcombe. He is also survived by a host of many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and grand and great-grand nephews.
Ken leaves behind his very special “family of friends” at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Lake Junaluska, as well as his very devoted, loving and caring neighbors. He was an avid walker around the lake in his younger days. He enjoyed the last many years welcoming and chatting with friends, as they stopped and gathered around his favorite bench during their walks around the lake pathways.
Ken was a veteran of the US Navy WWII. Following his military service, he obtained his mechanical engineering degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Ken was a mechanical engineer up until the time of his retirement in 1990. He specialized in the design and development of hand tools, machinery, and mechanized machine systems.
A special thanks to all of those who shared in and were such an important part of Ken’s life. He was truly blessed.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. Interment will follow the funeral mass in the Columbarium on the grounds of St. John the Evangelist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Ken’s memory to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Lake Junaluska Assembly, PO Box 67, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
