Clyde, Kenneth Dean Best, age 82, of the upper Crabtree community died on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at his home with family and friends by his side. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Crawford and Essie Hill Best. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Best; seven brothers, Willard, Joe, Earl, Junior, Ernest, Max and Woodie Best; two sisters, Eva Ferguson and Denise Best. Kenneth retired from security in 1987 from the Dayco Corporation where he was an employee for 20 years. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Lucy Rich Best; his children, Kenneth W. and his wife, Brenda, Tootie Best and his wife, Kim, and Tammy Best and her husband, Billy Dover, all of the Crabtree Community; three sisters, Hilda Gibson, of Canton, Edna Lentz, of Waynesville, and Louise McSwain, of Mooresville, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Chris, Courtney, Jackie, Jacob, and Braxton Best, Cody, Carrie and Justin Wells, and Michael and Mathew Ford; and two great granddaughters, Kasey and Taylor; and one great-great grandson, Coleman Dean Wells. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kitty Crain and Reverend Matt Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim and Michael Lentz, Roger and Dennis Ferguson, Tommy Rich, Adrian Presnell, and Jimmy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Best, Ted Putnam, and Leroy Rich. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
