Kenneth Jones

Kenneth Alvin "Root" Jones, age 77, of 6 Elaine Drive passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late George Alvin Jones. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell "Gene" Jones; and a sister, Frances Queen. He was a 1954 graduate of Bethel High School and an outstanding high school athlete. Ken was a retired funeral director assistant with Wells Funeral Homes with 40 years service. In his years of employment, Ken exhibited a warm and compassionate demeanor in assisting numerous families and friends in his funeral service career. Ken was an avid fisherman and was a former member of the Canton Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, W. Grace "Smokie" Grant Jones; foster parents, Wallace "Dolly" and Mary Jones of Canton; foster brother, Richard Jones of Canton; two foster sisters, Norma L. Thomason and Barbara Shepard both of Canton; two nieces, Brenda Jones and Diana Phillips; two nephews, Tinker Queen and Jimmy Jones; and two great-nieces, Amanda and Tiffany Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James F. Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
