Kenneth Smith

Waynesville, Kenneth Edward Smith, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County he was the son of the late Fred Grant and Nola May Russell Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Robbie Smith, who died in 1992; a daughter, Karen Cook ; a great-grandson, Elam Williams and a brother, Charles Smith. Kenneth was affectionately referred to as Grandpa by all his friends and family. He was a model employee working for ABF Freightliners as a truck driver for 30 years. In his spare time, Grandpa enjoyed cruising the open roads on his Harley Davidson. He also loved camping at Lake Chatuge with his family. Grandpa's most cherished treasure was his beautiful family, a family that will miss him dearly. Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Tracy Plemmons, of Waynesville; son, Rusty Smith, and his wife, Barbara, of Woodstock, Georgia; brother, Robert Smith, of Waynesville; son-in-law, Keith Cook; eleven grandchildren, Allison Carver (Cabe), Amanda Williams (Matt), Justin Cook (Emily), Jessica Nicholson (Blake), Laura Ledford (Shane), Ashley, Andrew, Caleb, Joshua, Noah and Abbey Smith; eleven great-grandchildren, Jack Carver, A.J. and Arlo Ledford, Abigail and Savannah Jones, Teague and Chloe Williams, Grayson, Eli and Cody Cook and Paxton Nicholson. Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kent Lowdermilk officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until service time at the Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
