Waynesville, Kyle Davis Grasty 76, died May 16, 2010 at his residence, 74 Highland Road, Waynesville after an extended illness. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John and Ethel Marcus Grasty. A son Timothy Ray Grasty; and four brothers, Weaver, James, Charles, and Edwin (Ted) Grasty also preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean conflict. Kyle was employed with the N.C. Department of Correction and later with the Haywood County Sheriffs Department serving as Chief Deputy until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement, Kyle worked with Haywood Baptist Association serving as Manager of Camp New Life until his illness forced him to resign. He was an active member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church serving as an active deacon and previously Chairman of the Deacons. He is survived by his wife Guylene Ledford Grasty and two sons, David of Waynesville and Bobby and his wife, Rita, also of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Zackry of the home and Tylar, a student of East Tennessee State University Johnson City, TN; two brothers, Jack Grasty, and his wife, Jennifer of Maggie Valley and Hugh Grasty and his wife, Evelyn, of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Grasty, of Waynesville; along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay T. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be two nephews, Steve and Dennis Grasty and deacons of the church, Ronnie Gillett, Bergin Tatham, Roger Fernandez, Tim Brooks, Wayne Ashe and Terry Whitner. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice and Dr. Harry Lipham and his nurse, Heather, for the wonderful care Kyle received during his illness.
