Waynesville, NC - Lamar Layden Johnson, age 86, of Boulder, Colorado passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011. A native of Knox County, Tennessee, he spent his childhood in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Jennings and Sybil Layden Johnson and was also preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Williams "Geri" Johnson, who died in 2009; one sister, Phyllis Lockwood; and one brother, Eddie Johnson. He served as a sergeant in the US Army Air Force for three years and later graduated from the University of Richmond. He was a manager for State Farm and a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville where he was a member of the Senior Citizens Choir, an usher, and active in Sunday-School. Lamar loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by one daughter, Donna DeLellis and her husband, Joe, of Lafayette, Colorado; two sons, David Johnson and his wife, Margaret, and Gordon Johnson, all of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Mary Frances Ownley of Elizabeth City, NC and Evelyn Davenport of Camden, NC; three brothers, Harvey Johnson of Edenton, NC, Larry Johnson of Tucker, GA, and C.B. Johnson of Roper, NC; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
