Larry Norris

Waynesville, Larry Michael Norris, age 74, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Haywood County, he was one of the four sons of Harold Norris and Margaret McKinnish Norris.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Kenneth, David, and Daryl Norris; maternal grandparents, Mitchell and Marie Greenwood-McKinnish; and paternal grandparents, David and Elisbeth Norris.

Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was skilled as a M60 machine gunner.  He received a bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of Georgia.  Larry’s life was one of service to his fellow man and he relished his 20-year career with the U.S. Forestry as a Fire Boss.

Larry is survived by a host of special nieces and nephews; nieces, Jeanette Fetter (Thomas), Janet Deneen Green, and Cheryl Heitz (Kevin); great-nieces, Stephanie Sylvester (Brian), Mackenzie Fetter, Annabelle Heitz, and Alyssa Heitz; great-nephews, Alex Green (Rayven) and Austin Green; grandnieces, Rosalie, Rylie Mae and Ronnie Kate Greene; and sister-in-law, Nancy Norris.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.

The care of Mr. Norris has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
