Larry Allen Stewart

Larry Allen Stewart passed away in Waynesville, North Carolina on January 13, 2025, at the age of 82 years, with his family by his side. He was born on October 6,1942, in Robbinsville, North Carolina to his parents Russell and Lorene Stewart.

In his early twenties he was a North Carolina State Trooper stationed in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Most of his years, until retirement, were spent in banking and finance. He was interested in classic cars and was a member of Sunset Cruisers for many years. After retirement, he and Elaine enjoyed taking their motorhome up and down the east coast, taking in the early history of America. Larry especially enjoyed camping In Maine and the blueberry pancakes served at one of their favorite campgrounds there. He was a volunteer with Friends of the Smokies. He loved these mountains and was particularly proud of his heritage as a member of the Stewart clan in Graham County. But Larry’s greatest joy was his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, son Allen Stewart and his wife Donna; daughter Amy Smith and her husband Kevin; granddaughters Hailey and Madison Stewart, and Ellie Smith. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Carver, and her husband Lamar as well as several nieces and nephews. Larry’s love for his family knew no bounds, and it was his granddaughters who held a special place in his heart.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, NC. A private ceremony will be held at Carver Cemetery in Robbinsville at a later date.
