He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Lillie Wheelon, step-mother Hester Wheelon, brother Sydney Wheelon, and pre-mature twin daughters.
Left to mourn his absence is his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Linda. She has devoted her life to caring for Larry, especially during his more recent health struggles. Thankfully she has many memories of Larry to carry in her heart until they meet again.
Also survived by sons Joel (Crystal) Wheelon and Tim (Elizabeth) Wheelon, special granddaughter Brooklyn Shepard-Wheelon, grandchildren Ellah & Evyn Wheelon, and Paizley & Lillie Wheelon. Sister Joyce (Buddy) Fisher and brother Ron Wheelon. Many nieces and nephews.
Larry Wheelon is a name synonymous with the Walking Horse industry. He had a deep love for walking horses, and was very passionate about sharing that love with anyone and everyone. He trained many successful horses and riders. In addition, his true love was breeding walking horses, always striving for the next World Champion! He loved attending shows, and more recently was faithful watching shows he couldn’t attend due to his health.
Larry died with a continued love and passion for the horse industry that drove him, loved him, and supported him for so many years. Yet he also died with a newly realized love and devotion to his wife and family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the East Tennessee Walking Horse Association for their years of continued support. Special thank you to Dr. Russell Huntsinger for his compassionate care.
A family graveside service will be held at 4pm Saturday May 21, 2022 followed by a Celebration of Life for friends and family 4:30-6pm at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, North Carolina, 28715

Larry will be missed by many, but assured us of his salvation and that we will see him again one day!
