Laura W Soltis

Waynesville, NC, Laura Woody Soltis, 89, died on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Brookdale Walden Ridge of Asheville after a short illness.

Laura was the daughter of the late Jonathan Huff and Anne Foote Woody and a descendant of the Cataloochee Valley.  She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Wayne Soltis.   

Laura graduated from Haywood County School Systems, Randolph – Macon Woman’s College and received a master’s degree from Emory University in Library Science.

She worked at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Haywood Co. Library and retired as Library Director from Newton County, GA Library System.   Following retirement Laura & Roger moved back to Haywood Co and was a member of FUMC, Friend of the Library, Friends of the Smokies and was active in the community.

Laura is survived by her loving daughter Alice (Allie) Soltis; two sons, Jonathan Soltis (Jill) and Stephen Soltis; one brother, Stephen Woody (Mary Bruce); five grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends following the service.
