Laura West

Laura Burnette West, age 74, of Cruso died Monday, December 18, 2006, at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Kenneth and Ivory McCarson Burnette. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. West who died in 2006 and two sisters, Vera L. Payne and Margaret Harrison. She was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church. Laura loved the outdoors and singing with her church choir. During the summer months, she would garden and can a variety of vegetables. She is survived by a son, Darryl D. West and his wife, Shelly, of Candler; a sister, Clara Nusbaum of Canton; a brother, Clifford Burnette of Canton; four grandchildren, Amelia and Cassie West, Crystal Mease, and Joseph Caleb Burton; and a great-grandson, Christopher Brian West, II. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Mark Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
