Laura"Janie" Higgins

Waynesville, Laura Jane "Janie" Palmer Higgins, age 65, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of James Mark Palmer and the late Nellie Louise Muse Palmer. Janie was employed by Haywood Electric Membership Corporation, in the Consumer Accounting Department from 1980 until 2010. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church where she was currently serving as Chairman of the Nominating Committee and the Senior Citizen Group and was a member of the Bible fellowship group. She also attended Clifford's Grove Baptist Church, in Tignall, Georgia. Janie was a 1968 graduate of Tuscola High School. In 1980 she received her Associates Degree in Secretarial Science. The ocean brought great joy into Janie's life. She enjoyed traveling throughout the Caribbean and Myrtle Beach with her family. Janie adored her three beautiful grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as Mama J & J.J. She was a selfless and loving wife, mother & Mama J. In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Danny Higgins; two daughters, Amy Browning Boozer, and her husband, Billy, of Columbia, South Carolina and Danielle Louise Higgins, of Waynesville; two sons, Jason Mark Browning, and his wife, Kelly, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Daniel Jason Higgins, of Florida; one sister Bonnie Louise Palmer, of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Jacob Riley Noland, Valerie Grace Noland and Whitney Elizabeth Boozer. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Woodland Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
