Lavada Gibson

February 25, 1929 — November 13, 2003

Waynesville-Lavada Owen Gibson, age 74, of Mauney Cove, died Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Mountain Trace Nursing Center in Sylva, after a period of declining health.

A native and life long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Manson and Annie Messer Owen. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh Burgess; a daughter, Linda Sue Gibson; a brother, Manuel Owen; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She is survived by her husband, Louie Gibson, of Waynesville; two daughters, Phyllis Davis of Canton and Diane Gibson of West Union, SC; three sons, Norman Burgess of Waynesville, and Oscar Burgess and Jimmy Gibson, both of Sylva; three sisters, Dot Ford of Newport, TN, Lois Harris and Maebur Setzer, both of Waynesville; four brothers, Medford, Ray, Clifford, and Danny Owen, all of Waynesville; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest Messer officiating. Burial followed at Green Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers were Oscar and Chris Burgess, Tony, Johnny, Toby, and Donnie Davis, Dewayne, Jeremy, and Brandon Gibson, and Brandon Green.
