LAWRENCE KIMBALL BARBER, SR. Waynesville, Lawrence Kimball "Kim" Barber, Sr., age 94, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Deerfield Retirement Community. A native of Brattleboro, Vermont, he was the son of the late Lawrence K. and Gladys Kimball Barber. After graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute Kim joined the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company where he spent the next 42 years in various management positions, eventually becoming an equity partner and owner. He first came to Waynesville in 1942 to manage the new plant in Hazelwood. His occupation and work experience took him around the world often, preparing him for an equally stellar consulting career and retirement life. He has been Haywood County Economic Development Commission Chairman, Grace Episcopal Treasurer, West Haywood United Way President, and Deerfield Retirement Community Board member. An active golfer, he was involved at times with the Waynesville Country Club, the Little Mountain Club, and also Laurel Ridge. He was predeceased by his wife Martha Way Barber of Waynesville. Kim's altruism and passion for his community ultimately made Waynesville a better place. He is survived by his son, Lawrence K. Barber, Jr. and his wife, Claudia, of Shelburne, Vermont and two grandsons, Baxter and Chester Barber. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Grace Church in the Mountains with Reverend Arlene Lukas and Reverend Morgan Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Grace Church in the Mountains General Fund, 394 N.
