Lawrence Moody

March 25, 1924 — June 26, 2007

Waynesville-Lawrence L. Moody, age 83, of East Street, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare. A native of Clay County, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Elbert and Ellen Hampton Moody and was also preceded in death by a sister, Alma Cochran, and two brothers, Carl and Ray Moody. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter who enjoyed gardening, especially his flower gardens and was of Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 35 years; Willa Belle Jenkins Moody; two daughters, Linda and Kathy; two sons, Danny and Martin Moody; two stepdaughters, Cathy Presnell and her husband, Mike, and Faye Green and her husband, Wiley, both of Waynesville; one brother, Jimmy Moody and his wife, Pat, of Gastonia; four sisters, Mary Robinson of Waynesville, Frances Palmer of Florida, and Christine Adams and Inez McDonald, both of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Adams, Sam Fort, Chuck Lay, Keith Green, Wayne Davis and David Vaughn. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
