Lawrence Nelson

April 11, 1931 — July 20, 2014

Waynesville, Lawrence Odell Nelson, age 83, of Suburban Loop, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late David and Loretta Rathbone Nelson and was also preceded in death by three sisters; one brother, and his companion Lula Barrett. He was a member of the US Army National Guard. He was a milkman for Sealtest and Biltmore Dairies before retiring from Bi-Lo Grocery as a produce manager. Odell is survived by a daughter, Karen Smith (Orie) of Daytona Beach, Florida; two sons, Ricky Nelson and Larry Nelson of Waynesville; sister, Lavada Harring of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother, Bill Nelson (Doris) of Waynesville; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John H. Swanger, III officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Davita for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Kidney Foundation, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
