Lawrence Smith

Waynesville-Lawrence W. ''Larry'' Smith, age 45, of 464 Shelton Cove Road, died Saturday, October 12, 2002 at his residence.

Born on September 1, 1957, he was a native of Dunedin, Florida. He was the assistant manager for 17 years with Food Lion. He was a founding member of the Jonathan Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He held the rank of Lieutenant and was an active member for the past 17 years. During several of those years he also assumed the role as training officer. From 1992 to 1998 he was involved in the Scouting program in Haywood County. He was both a Scout Master and Assistant Scout Master of troops 308 and 370.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Frost Smith. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cynthia Amsler Smith; two sons, Wayne and Shawn Smith, of Waynesville; his father and step-mother, Alan H. and Christine Smith, of Newberry, Florida; and one brother, David Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at Dellwood Baptist Church. The Reverend Jason Ledford and Reverend David Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow at the Caldwell Cemetery, on Pot Leg Road, in the Hemphill Community. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2002 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

The Jonathan Creek Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and will conduct graveside rites.
