Waynesville – Lawrence "Larry" Wayne Colford, 84, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Larry was a native of Glenburn, Maine, and was proud of his Maineic heritage. He was the son of Helen Louise and Robert Earl Colford and also raised by Henry and Audrey Megquier. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Johanne Colford, who passed away in 1984, and his second wife, Gail Colford, who passed away in 2017; two sons, Allan Mutch and Rick Seibert; sister, Marilyn Kaehler; brothers, Carroll, and Walter Colford; and son-in-law, Bill Staib.
Larry was a man of many talents and ambitions ranging from woodworking to being a restauranteur, volunteering countless hours with Lions Club, playing, and watching golf, and always being the best PaPa ever. In his earlier years in Bangor, Maine, Larry served his country as an officer in the Coast Guard. He began servicing the needs of his community on a local level when he joined the Lions Club. In time, he was elected as the District Governor for the Palm Beach Club. After retirement, Larry and Gail moved to Waynesville where they were afforded the opportunity to own and operate Maggie’s Galley Seafood Restaurant. They ran the restaurant for over a decade. During that time both he and Gail were dedicated to their work with the Waynesville and Maggie Valley Lions Club. Larry enjoyed the countless fundraisers and community activities with the Lions Club, especially attending summer sessions at Camp Dogwood, Camp for the Blind. Larry was blessed with a servant’s heart and exemplified the role of a father.
Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Melissa Lane (Lawrence), of Brewer, Maine, Vickie Staib, of Waynesville, Helen Pollifrone (Frank), of Waynesville, and Callie Grippo, of Middletown, Connecticut; three sons, Jim Mutch (Linda), of Taylor, Michigan, Bob Stackhouse, of Columbus, Ohio, and Ed Seibert (Amy), of Westerville, Ohio; one sister, Terri Kinney, of Bangor, Maine; two brothers, Ray Colford (Linda), of Orrington, Maine and Bob Colford (Sharma), of Rhode Island; sister-in-law, Lucille Colford, of Bangor, Maine; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
