Lawrence "Larry" And Maureen Salamon

Waynesville, North Carolina, Lawrence "Larry" Salamon, age 85, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 and Maureen Cunningham Salamon, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

Larry was a native of Illinois and was a son of the late Emil and Anna Kolzer Salamon, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Salamon; sister, Betty Ann VanHeel.  Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years.  He was an avid sports fan, baseball, football and hockey.  He was a devout Catholic.

Maureen was a native of Illinois and was a daughter of the late John and Wilma Balogh Cunningham, in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Salamon; daughter, Nancy Salamon; sister, Sharon Curly; and brother, John Cunningham.  She was an accomplished artist.

Maureen and Larry met at a holiday picnic in Chicago, later married and moved to Cooper City, Florida where they raised their family. After retirement they moved to Sarasota where they lead a active social and spiritual life, enjoying life to the fullest with family and friends. Family was of the utmost importance to them, and they were wonderful parents and grandparents.  They enjoyed traveling together.

They are survived by two daughters, Mary Kamerer (Mark), of Waynesville, NC and Sharon Salamon, of Sarasota, FL; son, James Salamon (Amy), of Cooper City, Florida; Maureen’s brother, Patrick Cunningham (Nancy); six grandchildren, Alexander Kamerer, Gillian Kamerer, James Salamon, Jr., Jackson Salamon, Luke and Mark Schroeter; and several nieces and nephews.

A joint celebration of life will be held at a later date in Sarasota, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The care of Mr. and Mrs. Salamon has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
