Waynesville-Lee Roy "Pet" Hannah, age 79, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Fred Henry and Gracie Jane Mills Hannah. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother Zell Hannah; his wife, Elva Trantham Hannah; two sisters, Mary Henderson and Helen Smith and four brothers, Paul, Frank, Tommy and David Hannah. Lee Roy was employed by Ready Mix/Southern Concrete as a mechanic. He had a very giving spirit and was always there to help his family and friends in need. In 1986, Pet was the first heart transplant patient in Haywood County. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He is survived by one daughter, Judy Hannah, of Waynesville; one son, Ronnie Hannah, of Asheville; three sisters, Wanda Garrison, Wilda Smith, and June Lamb; one brother, Dean Hannah, several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Eddie Deitz and Reverend Carl Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
