Leila Lewis

January 27, 1919 — October 31, 2013

Lucile Lewis, 94, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Pisgah Manor, Candler, NC.
Lucile was born January 27, 1919 in Calabasas, CA, the eldest of three children born to Erwin and Leila Lewis. Lucile enjoyed keeping her younger brothers Erwin and Glenn in line, and probably was relieved to head off to college and leave them to their mischief.
She devoted her life to nursing, and earned a Master's degree in Medical Surgical Nursing at Loma Linda in 1957. She joined the faculty immediately as an Emeritus Professor of Nursing and taught at the Loma Linda School of Nursing for 30 years.
Lucile was dedicated to ensuring young people had the opportunity to experience a Christian education and supported numerous young people through the Seventh-day Adventist education system.
Lucile was also a world traveler and journeyed to almost every continent, often offering assistance to a number of schools of nursing in other countries. She was fond of long walks, enjoyed tending her garden, and healthy living. Prior to moving to Candler, NC in 2010 to be closer to her family, Lucile retired in Yountville, CA and volunteered at St. Helena hospital for 25 years.
Lucile is survived by her brother Glenn and his wife, Rose; sister-in-law, Katherine Lewis; nephew, Gary Lewis and wife, Toni; nieces, Marna Sildve and husband, Peter, Karen Boyle and husband, Bill and Linda Lewis; several great nieces and nephews, a great great niece and nephew and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Erwin and nephew Jerry Lewis.
We wish to extend our thanks to the doctor and staff at Pisgah Manor for their care of Lucile these past three years.
