Lena Lyle

Waynesville, Lena Nell Travis Lyle, age 88, of 89 Walker Road, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at The Homestead. Lena was born in Greenville, South Carolina and was a former resident of Asheville and longtime resident of Waynesville. Daughter of the late Albert Hugh and Nelle Elizabeth Cook Travis, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack Lyle, her two brothers, Hugh and Bill, and her sister Audrey. Lena was a 1944 graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville. She was a career bank teller, working at several Asheville area banks, before settling down at Haywood Savings and Loan. She retired from Haywood Savings in 1992. She was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Waynesville and former member of the West Asheville Presbyterian Church, where she and Jack were youth leaders in the early 1960s. Lena is survived by her children Jack B. Lyle of Rockledge Florida, Jeff F. Lyle and his wife Sandy, and James E. Lyle and his wife, Karin, all of Waynesville; her grandchildren, Virginia Ann Lyle, Josh Lyle and his wife, Nacole, John Lyle and his wife, Taylor, and Bryan Lyle; and also by her great-grandchild, John Walker Lyle. A funeral service and celebration of Lena's life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Enka at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the services at the Wells Events & Reception Center.
