Waynesville, Leon Elmer Webb, age 98, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
Leon was born on April 6, 1922 to the late Monroe Clarence and Bertha Plemmons Webb, in a log house with an added on "lean to" kitchen in the Luck community of Spring Creek, Madison County. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ve Etta Woodruff Webb, who died in 2017; infant brother, Robert Webb, brothers, Neal, James, and M.C. Webb, Jr.; and two sisters, Maggie and Paralee Webb.
Leon accepted Jesus as Savior on October 6, 1935. He was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, sang in the choir, taught Senior Men’s Sunday School Class and discipleship class for many years. Leon also served as Sunday School Director, Chairman of the deacons, and had many other positions in the church. He was a member of Gideons International for several years and had read thru the Bible over 32 times.
Leon was a proud member of the U.S. Army Air Corps for 25 months during World War II. As a Radar Technician, he served with a group chosen to develop Short Range Navigational Radar. After service, Leon married the love of his life, Ve Etta Woodruff, and they were happily married for over 69 years.
As a result of their union, he leaves behind a daughter, Victoria Lynn Messer, of Waynesville, and a son, Jerry Duane Webb, and his wife Teresa, of Clyde; three grandchildren, Tiffany Messer, of New York City and Charlotte, Shaun Messer, and his wife Anna, and Kerry Paul Webb, and his wife, Libbi, all of Waynesville; two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Palmer Kate Messer; sister, Carol Winchester, of Waynesville; brother, Francis Webb, and his wife, Janet; sister-in-law Alma Webb, all of Waynesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other friends, and relatives.
Leon owned and managed Leon’s Radio & TV Sales & Service for 37 years, from which he retired in 1987.
He’s gone where there will be no more parting. A private graveside service will be held at Green Hill cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to Autumn Care of Waynesville for taking wonderful care of Leon.
