Leonard Boone

February 8, 1923 — April 10, 2004

Clyde-Leonard O. Boone, 81, died Saturday, April 10, 2004 in Asheville at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center.

A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was born in Buncombe County and was the son of the late Harry E. and Lydia Bagwell Boone. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Boone Brown and two brothers, Harry D. and John N. Boone.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served his country during World War II. He retired as maintenance supervisor in 1987 from Champion International after 43 years of services; following which he was a member of Snug Harbor. An active member of the Clyde Central United Methodist Church, he served as a Trustee, on the Official Board, Finance Committee and the Methodist Men's Association. Elected as an Alderman, he served the Town of Clyde for the past 14 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilda Newman Boone of Clyde; two daughters, Nancy Boone Sprinkle and her husband, Ronnie, of Waynesville and Lynn Boone Pressley and her husband, Mike, of Canton. There are five grandchildren: Jeremy Pressley, Amy Sprinkle Lowery and her husband, Kevin, of Canton, Dolly Pressley Byrd and her husband, Brian, of New Orleans, LA, Carrie Sprinkle Thomason and her husband, Brent, of Lakeland, FL and Page Sprinkle Truesdale and her husband, Sid, of Simpsonville, SC. There are two great grandsons, Peyton and Parker Truesdale. Surviving sisters are Dorothy Dolan of Newport News, VA, Nancy Powell of Asheville, Sue Conard and Mary Lou Bentley of Canton. Surviving brothers are Bill, Tom and Bernard Boone all of Canton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Central United Methodist Church of Clyde with the Reverend Chris Westmoreland and Reverend James Hart officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church Fellowship Hall.
