Leonard Harrington

Leonard James Harrington, age 86, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Warrensburg, New York, he was the son of the late Leonard and Myrtle Turner Harrington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he lived most of his life. Leonard and his wife moved to Haywood County in 2012 to be closer to his family. Leonard loved playing golf, doing yard work and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Jessie Vratil Harrington; a daughter, Deborah Harrington-Valliere, and her husband, Joseph, of Clyde; a son, Kelly James Harrington, and his wife, Claudette, of Black Mountain; four grandchildren, Shane David Valliere, Matthew Joseph Valliere and Stephen Ryan Valliere, all of of Clyde, and Bryan Donald Harrington; and seven great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard's name to CarePartners Hospice and Palliative Care, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
