Waynesville, Leonard Theodore "Lenny" Kirkendall, age 66, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at The Homestead. A native of Corning, New York, he was the son of the late Leonard Theodore and Florence Shea Goodrich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Kirkendall. Lenny served his country for 28 years and retired from the United States Navy as a Lieutenant. He then worked and retired from the City of Miami Police Department as well as the Haywood County Department of Corrections. Lenny was a volunteer for the Center Pigeon Fire Department and was an elder at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was member. His passion was his family, especially his grandchildren and his two Pomeranians, Smokey and Patch. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Kirkendall; a son, Dylan Kirkendall and his wife, Kristy, of Gastonia, North Carolina; two sisters, Pat LaChance of Paris, Kentucky and Jennifer Martin and her husband, James, of Litiz, Pennsylvania; a brother, Michael Goodrich; two grandchildren, Jakob and Tyler Kirkendall and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor John Greene and Pastor Jim Roseman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
