Leonard Phillips

December 18, 1926 — September 4, 2005

Waynesville-Leonard Roe Phillips, age 78, of Ray Street, died on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at Mission St. Joseph Healthcare System. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Phillips. He retired from the Town of Waynesville Maintenance Department and worked several years for the county at the Transfer Station. He was also a member of the Waynesville Fire Department. He enjoyed raising cattle and growing tobacco and was of Baptist faith. He is survived by one daughter, Paula Mathews, of Waynesville; four brothers, Glen, Charles, Frank, and Thomas Phillips, all of Waynesville; two granddaughters, Carla Hampton and her husband, Jason, and Alicia Aguilar; and one great granddaughter, Angelina Vazquez. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jay Eastridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
