Lethel B. Stockton, age 82, died Monday, October 29, 2007, at Haywood Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Daniel Riley and Lillie Parker Stockton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester J. Stockton. He retired in 1988 from Champion International with 43 ½ years of service. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years. Lethel loved gardening and was an avid Atlanta Braves, Miami Dolphins, and Pisgah Bears sports fan. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Opal Farmer Stockton, he is survived by a daughter, Trudy West and her husband, Roger, of Candler; three sons, David L. Stockton and his wife, Pam, Michael B. Stockton and his wife, Robin, and Keith S. Stockton and his wife, Kim, all of Canton; eight grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Reverend Gene Worley, Reverend Jack Scott, and Reverend Harry Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
